Meeting with Karolinska Institutet’s most important collaborator Stockholm County Council

Karolinska Institutet’s most important collaborator is the Stockholm County Council (SCC). The collaboration with the SCC strengthens KI as an internationally competitive university, and together KI and SCC are currently creating a common and unique arena for translational, clinical and epidemiological research and education in the region. This arena consists of several agreements and actions, one of which is the recently signed regional so called ALF agreement. With this agreement we have laid the foundation for a continued successful collaboration for the benefit of individuals and the society. In this agreement, we state that we should together support the development of health care through an extended and deepened collaboration within translational and clinical research, education, development and innovation. University health care is agreed to be a common responsibility and the parties contributes to its development and steering. However, much work remains to translate the ALF-agreement into operation.
On Thursday April 27th, the KI-SCC management group, the highest organizational level of the collaborative organization met to discuss university health care, to outline a KI-SCC management strategy for research and education. The meeting was held in a positive atmosphere and the KI-SCC management group gave the mandate to the County Council Director Toivo Heinsoo and myself to assemble a smaller group to develop a joint strategy.
We have also progressed with appointing members from both organizations to the Research council and the Educational council supporting the KI-SCC management group and these councils can now start their important work.
In addition, KI and Karolinska University hospital will further strengthen important links between respective organizations with the step-wise implementation of the new organizational model supporting value-based health care, research and education.
