Vi är mitt i vårterminen och börjar längta efter solens varma strålar. Många av oss har just varit inne i en intensiv ansökningsperiod där olika deadlines radat upp sig. Nu vidtar granskning, bedömning och beslut hos de olika finansiärerna innan vi får besked om utfallet. Jag märker hur fler och fler av våra yngre forskare beviljas medel och hur NVS forskning fortsätter att utvecklas på ett spännande sätt. Mycket glädjande!

För det kokar ner till att pengar behövs; både till forskning och utbildning. KI har totalt sett en mycket god ekonomi på forskningssidan, men vi ser samtidigt hur finansieringen för utbildningen har urholkats de senaste åren. Det gäller nationellt och alla universitet och lärosäten tampas med att få ekonomin att gå ihop utan att kvaliteten på utbildningen påverkas. En delikat balansakt! NVS arbetar nu för att utnyttja de resurser vi har på allra bästa sätt. Detta sker parallellt med de diskussioner om resursfördelning och användning av myndighetskapital som förs vid KI centralt och målet är att läget snart ska stabiliseras igen.

För NVS-ledningens del kom alltså starten av 2024 att handla extra mycket om ekonomi. Vi håller i det arbetet och går samtidigt vidare med att forma den nya verksamhetsplanen med utgångspunkt i våra strategiska frågor: Samverkan, Kompetensförsörjning, NVS-känslan, Framtidens möjligheter och utmaningar.

Feeling of spring

We are in the middle of the spring semester and starting to long for the sun’s warm rays. Many of us have just been in an intensive application period where various deadlines have lined up. Now review, assessment and decisions take place with the various financiers before we are informed of the outcome. I notice how more and more of our younger researchers are granted funding and how NVS research continues to develop in an exciting way. Very gratifying!

Because it boils down to the fact that money is needed; both for research and education. Overall, KI has a very good economy on the research side, but at the same time we see how funding for education has eroded in recent years. This applies nationally and all universities and colleges are struggling to make ends meet without affecting the quality of education. A delicate balancing act! NVS is now working to utilize the resources we have at our disposal in the best way. This takes place in parallel with the discussions on resource allocation and use of authority capital that are conducted at KI centrally, and the goal is for the situation to stabilize again soon.

For the NVS management, the start of 2024 therefore came to be especially about finances. We are continuing this work and at the same time moving forward with shaping the new business plan based on our strategic questions: Cooperation, Competence provision, NVS feeling, Future opportunities and challenges.
