Good luck all students leaving KI – and welcome back!
Now is that very special time in the year of a university. A time marked by immense joy and anticipation but sometimes also by a slight melancholy. Graduation days. Our fantastic students who have completed their education and training at Karolinska Institutet, are leaving us for a new exciting tasks.
Some of you might even continue to work together and not just as colleagues and former class mates but as interprofessional teams – one of the great privileges with our professions.
Dear students, soon to be KI alumni,
University studies is a very special time in one’s life. It is hard work and sometimes you have to sacrifice some things. But during those long days, late evenings and weekends of studying, you have hopefully also built a network of people that will be of great value to you also in the future, in good as well as bad times. And do not forget, as a KI alumni you have an even greater network to keep in touch with.
Most of the time you will experience good times, but there will always be times when life is hard and some you will experience setbacks, make mistakes or decisions that you later find was not optimal. For those times, I would like to give you a quotation from the English playwright Oscar Wilde, who said:
To regret one’s own experiences is to arrest one’s own development.
We all make mistakes every now and then – that is also part of our personal development. The wise learns from their mistakes and move on with new insights and understanding, whereas those who are too afraid of making mistakes risk being completely inable to act and stuck in the same place.
Trust in yourself, strive to do the right thing but face and learn from your mistakes.
